How long does my hair have to be to start dreadlocks?
The reccomended length to start dreadlocks differs depending on what method you are using for making dreadlocks. For backcombing your hair should be at least 3 inches. For twisting your hair should be around 5 inches.
Can I swim with dreadlocks?
You can swim with dreadlocks, isn't that nice. Dreadlocks are just like every other hairstyle in this case. The only thing you need to do diferently when you have dreadlocks is make sure all the water is removed from your dreadlocks after you are finished. You do not want your dreadlocks to ever hold water because they may start to stink.
Can I stop brushing and washing my hair and make dreadlocks?
This method for making dreadlocks is appropriately called the neglect method because you basically neglect your hair and hope it turns into dreadlocks. This method is not very asthetically pleasing and it only resembles dreadlocks for about 40% of the people who use it.
What should I use when I'm making dreadlocks?
Depending on the method you use you may or may not need a dread comb. But you will always need rubberbands, a strong dread wax, and residue free shampoo. If you are looking to make dreadlocks with the backcombing method, the best and easiest method, in my opinion, I reccomend the Dreadheadhq starter kit because it has everything you need to start dreadlocks.
Can I wash dreadlocks?
You can wash dreadlocks, and fortunately it's not hard. The suprising thing about dreadlocks is the cleaner they are the faster they will lock up and look good. You should wash your dreadlocks at least twice a week with a residue free shampoo.
Do I have to use a special shampoo when I have dreadlocks?
You need to use a residue free shampoo when you have dreadlocks. When you have dreadlocks the residues left behind build up in the middle of your dreadlocks, which can cause them to smell or loosen. I've been using the Dreadheadhq residue free shampoo for 5 years and I've never had any problems with loose dreadlocks or stinky dreadlocks. They also have a 6 soap combo that last about a year.

Do I have to use a special product or shave my head to remove dreadlocks?
You do not have to use a special product or shave your head to remove dreadlocks. You can remove dreadlocks by soaking them in strong conditioner and gently combing them out. I must warn you though, I've heard it takes a lot of time.
Can I make instant dreadlocks?
You cannot make instant permanent dreadlocks but you can use a temporary dreadlocks kit to make dreadlocks in a day and they last about a month.
